Spent a week in Beijing visiting my friends who are currently re-invigorating a hutong called Dashilar. You can read about their project on Coolhunting here. It was a whirlwind week, crammed full of cocktails, clubs and lots of new things to eat. I ate a bullfrog, amongst other delights; visited the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square and generally just had my mind blown by a very busy city.
Park Hyatt Bar — for fancy cocktails and a view of the entire city, including Rem Koolhaas' CCTV building | Cute cocktails at Mas Bar in the hutongs | 798 Art District and further on, Ai Wei Wei's walled art bunker | Heaven Supermarket — a fluro lit off licence where you can drink at tables inside. So much cooler than it sounds | Dada Club — late night party time, featuring good music and the best Engrish cocktail menu with such gems as 'Safer Sex On Beach' | Dinner at Vin Vi, a gorgeous Japanese Izakaya - in case you tire of traditional Chinese food |
